Issue:
You’re trying to update Linux Mint 18.x to the latest 18.x version. You google that there is a program called Mintupdate, which is supposed to be represented by a shield in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. The icon is missing and searching through the installed program you also can’t find it.
Solution:
sudo apt-get install mintupdate
